Wildlife reserves
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust manages 61 reserves throughout the two counties. 6 of these are in the Loddon and Eversley Heritage Area, including the Bartley Heath, Hook Common and North Warnborough Green complex. Bartley Heath and Hook Common were once part of one large area of heathland, grassland and woodland, where local people exercised their rights of common including grazing and estovers (taking timber). During the early part of the last century it provided a popular venue for local people wanting a day out in the countryside. It is still a great place to go, with a wealth of wildlife including the rare and beautiful Marsh Gentian which flowers in late summer.
